A 2015 Japanese Art Academy Mudkip promo, graded PSA 10 with only three graded that high, topped Goldin's Pokémon 30th Anniversary Auction at $4,880,000: a $4 million winning bid after 73 bids, plus the buyer's premium. The art came from a fan in a Pokémon illustration contest (Daisuke Ochiai). It beat the 1997 Japanese First Tournament gold Trophy Pikachu PSA 8 ($3,080,500). My take: collectors are paying for story and scarcity, so know what's in your binder.
